Agrowisata
Gunung Mas is a tourism location that based on agriculture located on the
mountainside of Lawu, Karanganyar, Central Java. This place was established by
Sukatno (70 years old) in 1988. The main commodities of this place are Salak
Lawu (Lawu’s zallaca fruit) and Ubi Cilawu (Cilawu’s sweet potato). These commodities can not be found in any
other places because Sukatno himself who developed Salak Lawu by crossbreeding
the local zalacca’s variety with Pondoh variety and giving a new flavor,
sweeter but bigger size. And also the local variety of sweet potato from
Bandung, West Java, known as Ubi Cilembu, he tried to plant it here and got
more crops than the origin.

Not
only farming activity, this place also has a restaurant to sell the products
directly to consumers and processing the farm products’ to something more
valuable such as bakpia (a traditional tea cake that were adapted from Chinese
tea cake). The restaurant is quite famous in Indonesia because it has a special
menu, Sate Landak (Hedgehog Satay) which is the first and original menu,
accidentally created because the hedgehogs love to eat the zalaccas from the
farm. This menu also awarded by Museum Rekor Indonesia (MURI or Indonesian
Record Museum) for its uniqueness and originality.

The
place is quite chilly and has spectacular sceneries. Hills, farms, trees are
part of this place. You could really
feel a humble atmosphere here for the famous Indonesian friendly hospitality.
Beside,
it’s just 45 minutes away from Solo city, one of the world’s heritage cities.
